The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
