The star has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album his work was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the region, and beyond, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

He also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The money assisted spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that money from shows in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

The musician is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

In Pulp earned the trophy in 1996 for their release their work, lead singer the singer declared that the group would contribute their prize money to the charity the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she split her bounty across multiple good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," the artist explained to the media.

In recent years, they contributed their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their act, as well as other local music groups.

And winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer the singer. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved two small stages in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
